The Conservation Regulator is seeking information about the suspected shooting of a Peregrine Falcon in the Flemington area on Monday 25 March.

An investigation is underway after the injured bird was found by a member of the public on Flemington Racecourse.

The bird was taken to a local vet clinic and referred to specialist veterinarians at Melbourne Zoo for assessment.

The Peregrine Falcon was X-rayed, and results showed fractures and what is believed to be fragments of shot gun pellets. The bird had to be euthanised due to the severity of the injuries.

The maximum penalty for the destruction of protected wildlife is $9,087 and/or six months in prison.
