Ever wondered what happens to surrendered guns? Recently, we filmed a Channel Nine exclusive in the very room where Victoria Police destroy these weapons. Located in the Forensic Services Department, this room may be small, but it is undeniably significant.

We were joined by Victoria Police Detective Superintendent Jason Kelly and Channel Nine presenter Neary Ty to film content for our new campaign, ‘Say Something Before It’s Too Late.’ The initiative raises awareness about the dangers of illegal firearms and urges the public to protect themselves and those around them by reporting what they know to Crime Stoppers

Interviews with Channel Nine, provided invaluable insights into the significance of both this space but also the need to remove illegal guns from the community. As the day progressed additional guns arrived, before a demonstration of the gun-crushing machine. With a resounding roar the machine was able to efficiently render even the most robust firearm into mere metal fragments!

With a staggering 5,126 firearm-related incidents reported in Victoria in 2023 alone (Crime Statistics Agency, 2023), the need for action is clear. Illegal firearms pose a serious threat to public safety, leading to dangerous shootings, thefts, and other violent acts that endanger not only individuals but entire communities.
