Over the weekend I was chatting with a friend about the work we do at Crime Stoppers. This is a brand I’ve known since childhood, with its ads and re-enactments but never truly understood. It didn’t take me long to work out that so much work is done behind the scenes… with our main focus on protecting everyone’s identities and information, this is something we pride ourselves on. Many misunderstand the work we do so I thought this International Women’s Day I would briefly share my experiences.
We are lucky enough to work on a wide range of topics from educational resources on Knife Crime, podcasts around family violence, and providing avenues into the workforce for youth. But most important is our offer of anonymous reporting. Being able to provide a service that allows people to share information without the fear of repercussion is a privilege.
Working behind the scenes, it did not take long to discover the tremendous amount of passion the Crime Stoppers Victoria staff put into their work. This passion is led by our incredible Chief Executive Stella Smith.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is a great time to reflect on how Crime Stoppers Victoria works to ‘Break the Bias‘ and what I have experienced in my tenure.

As a brand, we believe that addressing gender inequality is not only a moral imperative but also essential for building safer and more resilient communities. If we don’t reflect this behind closed doors as an organisation, we cannot expect it from our communities at large.
I proudly told my friend; from the first campaign was involved with, until now, I work with an organisation, where I feel I make a difference not only for myself, but for those that need us and those that will (unfortunately) need us.
