Crime Stoppers Victoria’s Community Engagement team has kicked off the New Year with several successful COVID-safe events across the state.
First up was a visit to the picturesque town of Yea in Victoria’s High Country. Teaming up Victoria Police, they delivered the latest instalment of the ongoing “Farm Crime Roadshow”” at Elders Yea 35th Annual Blue Ribbon Weaner Cattle Sale.
This event, which encouraged farmers to report any property-related theft to police immediately, attracted an enthusiastic crowd, who not only walked away with useful crime prevention knowledge… but one of Crime Stoppers Victoria and Victoria Police’s free farm gate signs and security checklists. Next on the Community Engagement calendar was a stint at the highly anticipated Midsumma Festival, Victoria’s premier LGBTQIA+ cultural event.
Working in challenging conditions — 30°C+ summer heat in the middle of the day! — the Community Engagement team and several volunteers proudly represented Crime Stoppers Victoria at the Midsumma Carnival with our very own stall.
Featuring a handy mobile phone charging station, the stall also offered Midsumma attendees a free, reusable tote bag, brimming with useful treats; think hand sanitiser, and colourful crime-prevention informational cards.
“Crime Stoppers Victoria was proud to be involved in Midsumma’s Carnival Day,” Senior Community Engagement Officer Ella Gvildys said. “Despite the heat, Crime Stoppers Victoria was thrilled to engage with attendees with conversations about safety, and show bags were embraced by the crowds.”
With 2022 already off to an energised start, the Community Engagement team is looking forward to keeping the momentum going.
