Here at Crime Stoppers Victoria, we’re proud to have a strong presence on social media. Across Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, we collectively have more than 71,000 followers.
Recently, we decided to expand our online offering by joining TikTok. With an estimated 1.7 million Australian users, the wildly popular app allows users to engage by posting short videos which can be edited to include eye-catching effects and catchy tunes; in other words, irresistible bits of content.
So why do TikTok and Crime Stoppers working together make sense? Well, we’re using the app to put a fresh spin on communicating our important crime prevention and safety messages. It helps us reach a new audience which predominantly consists of Generation Z (people aged 9-24).
Here are some great examples of our new posts:
How to Spot a Spiked Drink
In Australia, around half of drink spike victims are aged under 24, making it especially pertinent for the preventative safety tips in this post to be filtered through to a young audience.
@crimestoppers.vic If it doesn’t look right, don’t risk the #drink. Look out for your #friends & #party #safe. #fyp #crimetok #safety #drinkspiking #crimestoppersvic ♬ Talking to the Moon - Bruno Mars
How to (Mis)behave during Schoolies 2021
The title of this post might sound a bit counterintuitive coming from Crime Stoppers Victoria, but this humour-filled post encourages young school leavers to take it easy during celebrations. We think it’s important to show off our lighter side sometimes, especially when communicating to youth.
