The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is urging anyone with information about the alleged shooting of two kangaroos with arrows in Greenvale on Saturday, 1 June 2019 to come forward.

Two kangaroos were found at the Greenvale Public Recreation Reserve with arrows protruding, resulting in one being euthanised and a joey left motherless.

The first, a male kangaroo, with an arrow in its’ hind quarter, was taken to the Melbourne Zoo and treated.

The second kangaroo, a female with a joey in pouch, was found with an arrow in her neck and had to be euthanised. The joey later died in care.

In Victoria all wildlife is protected under the Wildlife Act 1975. It is illegal to destroy or interfere with wildlife and severe penalties apply.

The maximum penalty for hunting, taking or destroying wildlife ranges from $8059 to $38, 685 and/or six to 24 months imprisonment.
