The Consideration is Key campaign will be raising community awareness, highlighting the high percentage of motor vehicle thefts that are crimes of opportunity by sharing some hard truths with the Victorian community.
Crime Stoppers Victoria is asking the community to take action and consider how accessible their car keys are to potential thieves. Statistics show that seven out of ten cars are stolen with their own keys and 25% of cars are stolen from streets nearby the victim’s home.
In addition to these messages, members of the community are being urged to report any sightings of motor vehicle thefts to police or Crime Stoppers.
Crime Stoppers’ Victoria CEO, Erika Owens, said that just by taking an extra step to think about where you leave your keys, could deter potential thieves.
